The purpose of the surgical cap is to keep the surgeon's hair from falling during surgery and contaminating the sterile environment of the operating room. The majority of surgical caps now in use are disposable and made mostly of non-woven material. To prevent hair from leaking out when wearing the hat, the folded surgical cap should be inflated first, and then the edge of the cap should cover the front and rear hairlines and the area above the ears on both sides.
